The Impact of Technology on Our Daily Lives, Workspaces, and Relationships

But the rapid advancement of technology that has taken place, has become a very important factor in almost every aspect of our day-to-day existence. The advancement in technology in the recent past has been revolutionary not only in the production fields but also in the society in how we perceive and engage the environment and other people.

Today in our daily lives, we have smart gadgets and in integration with Internet of Things. Technology in virtual assistants such as Alexa, Siri, to home automation systems that manage lighting, temperature and security has made life easier and convenient. Now, we can control our home appliances from our smartphones, check our vital signs with smartwatches, and order groceries by just a swipe on a phone screen.

The workplace has also not been left behind and has also received a new look. The increase in the implementation of telecommuting especially with the outbreak of COVID 19 has been boosted by improved communication devices additional to cloud enhanced video conferencing and other collaborative solutions. Doors are now open for employees to be able to work from any location they prefer, thus achieve a balance between their career and personal lives and also bring a change to the usual conventional companies. On the other hand technological advancements like automation and artificial intelligence have taken over repetitive tasks, made production faster and minimized the use of manpower in productions.

Technologically, with the help of gadgets, we today interact with other people. Thanks to faces like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Wechat, viber and even video calls people are connected irrespective of distances formed and new friendships can be made. But, this social connection has also been associated with some disadvantages; problems like the addiction to the devices, fear of privacy invasions, and issues of identity, where it is hard to distinguish between the physical world and the virtual world.

It is therefore clear that technology as it will continue to grow more complex will also continue to produce more changes in our way of life, our work, and how we relate to one another. The question will thus be how it can be optimally used while dealing with those problems so that it become more of a boon than a bane.
